Medallist Shane Dorfman Sensei with coach Michael Roetz Sensei

In the senior male kumite, despite a heavy blow and injury to the face, Shane Dorfman took the bronze medal in an open weight division of over 100 of the world's top Shotokan fighters.

His dynamic performance resulted in a string of compliments from many karateka and officials, including Frank Brennan, the famous British karate legend and icon of the 90's.

Shane and Bryan Dukas represented South Africa in kata. Shane took fifth place.

Overall he had the best results of the only two karateka to finish in the top 5 in both kata and kumite. The male kumite team of Shane Dorfman, Bryan Dukas, Pieter Pretorius, Gerrit van Tonder and Arno van Tonder took 5th place, missing out on a place in the semi final by one point.

The camaraderie and the spirit of the team was exceptional and the credit was given to coach, Michael Roetz for his leadership qualities by chief instructor, Malcolm Dorfman Sensei.
